Liferay IDE Liferay IDE

Liferay IDE is a set of Eclipse plugins that support Liferay development. It is shipped as one single Eclipse feature (a set of plugins) that can be installed in any existing Eclipse install (currently Eclipse 3.6.x Helios).

Liferay Developer Studio is another set of Eclipse plugins but its a super-set of Liferay IDE, i.e., Liferay Developer Studio contains all of the Liferay IDE plugins with some additional plugins that support EE developers.

Currently these plugins are Ant-based and depend on the Liferay Plugins SDK. Support for Maven is planned in an upcoming release based on Eclipse 3.7 Indigo, which includes the m2eclipse project. When used with a SNAPSHOT version of the Liferay 6.1 Plugins SDK, developers can easily create JSF 2 and ICEfaces 2 portlets with PortletFaces Bridge, AlloyFaces, and LiferayFaces.
